When he began trading in the stock market, Dr. John White was looking for a strategy that would allow him to make consistent profits and not eat up all his valuable time. It's the same problem that many professionals face today when they consult with John, now a member of the BetterTrades coaching staff.

Dr. John found his answer in non-directional trading, a strategy which raises the odds of making money and reduces the need to correctly predict which way a stock will move. Dr. John's system is also popular because it requires a small time commitment.

"Non-directional trading is a very conservative system," Dr. John says. "It's low-risk, low-stress, hands-off trading. You don't need to be glued to the computer screen to trade this way."

Dr. John wasn't content to accept the level of returns he received through trading credit spreads the traditional way and began to experiment with his own unique way to use non-directional trades. After a few tweaks and a few months of testing, Dr. John had uncovered a system that suited him and took care of his needs.

John liked many aspects of the non-directional trade: how the trader collects money to begin the trade, how there's a large margin for error, how the neutral strategies are consistent and can be used to make profits whether the market is going up, going down or trending sideways.

John calls his trading a "system" not a strategy. He preaches the importance of having a workable, dependable system that can be used regardless of market activity. John wants his students to be profitable and believes the level of trading stress can be reduced through the use of non-directional trades.

John almost exclusively uses credit spreads in his personal trading. Not only has he found it a way to generate profit, his methods eliminate the need to sit in front of the computer monitor all day. He wants the same sort of "hands-off" freedom for his students.

"This requires a small time commitment," John says. "I'd say you need a couple hours a week to look at the market. That's all. You don't need to spend all day sitting in front of the computer screen.
